Keeping up with the new Indian restaurants in Aldergrove is turning out to be a career and a large responsibility in itself! I accept the challenge! Gian's Express, a branch of Gian's in Abbotsford is the latest to open (this is number five) and were are still expected a sixth in the near future.
Located in a newly built strip mall at Lefeuvre and Fraser Highway, Gian's is take-out only.
I admit to being somewhat unimaginative when ordering Indian food. I can't help it. I love Fish Pakora! This was a pretty good version at $11.00. The marinated and deep-fried cod with a green chutney was surprisingly crispy and hot after the short voyage home.
Malai Kofta is a great Indian vegetarian dish of paneer cheese balls in a curry sauce. Delightful for vegetarian and carnivore alike, this is something that I had never tried but would definitely have again. It was rich and creamy, could have been spicier but was still delicious.
Lamb Biryani is one of my favourite Indian dishes and this was a very good version. The lamb was tender and the rice was rich with flavour. Highly recommended.
I don't usually order Samosa because everyone does. It's not that I don't like them it's just that it is even less imaginative than my usual order. These were good. Crispy and rich with potatoes and peas and just full-on comforting.
Finally, a little dessert. Gulab Jamun is just like a donut soaked in syrup but with a little taste of cardamom. Nice. So there is no shortage of Indian food available in Aldergrove. They are all pretty good. Gian's might have its faithful customers who have lived in Abbotsford or driven there. Give them a try.
