We answered some PR related scavenger hunt questions and amazingly, won a $25 gift certificate for another taste of their menu! On our first visit, we had tried their original coffee bun. I made a mess of myself at the time and it turns out that I do much better with a knife and fork!
On our revisit, when we picked up and made short work of our gift certificate, we tried that original coffee bun again but this time as the 'Classic", served with banana and chocolate. Perfect! I had been trying to make the connection between roti canai that we often order from Malaysian restaurants and this roti, but it turns out roti simply means 'bread' so let's dispense with that reasoning. This roti is just a fluffy bread with a caramel coffee sweet coating. It has just a pleasant sweet note without being too much.
We tried their Raspberry Croissant as well on this visit. It was pleasantly flaky as a good croissant should be. I think we could have done with a little more filling,
The Feta and Spinach pastry was also very impressive. There was a nice balance here. Flaky pastry and nice cheesy savoury filling. There are quite a few menu items that are more savoury than sweet.
They do a lot of their baking in-house but also bring in some products from other local suppliers such as Jamaican Patties. We had our usual beverages, mine being dark roast black and Marie's being a decaf Americano. They do a very good job on their coffees but we have yet to try their signature Karak Tea.
Pappa Roti is warm and welcoming. We chatted with management and found them to be very personable. They clearly are interested in their client's satisfaction.
For what our opinion is worth, we give Pappa Roti 4 1/2 out of 5 and not just because we won a gift certificate!
